Week 50: The revelation of Jesus, the returning King

You guessed it! We are in the final week of the Bible reading journey and this can only mean one thing. It is time to read the book of Revelation.

Depending on your previous experiences and encounters, this may or may not be the most inviting or pleasant books to look forward to reading. It is probably one of the most widely interpreted books of the Bible with each view somehow contradicting all of the other views with mighty convincing arguments that this latest interpretation is the most accurate of them all. And who can ever keep track of all the many “current events” fulfilling at least one of the prophecies mentioned in this book?

But this week, I invite you to do something different.

I invite you to suspend all your previous exposures to the book – the good, the bad and the ugly. I request that you put those thoughts and images in the farthest recesses of your mind (I know this may be extra hard if like me you had watched movies or read books with varying degrees of interpretation). But I know you can do it. Suspend those memories.

And as you suspend those previous images, I invite you to create new ones.

I invite you to focus all your attention, thoughts and emotions towards Jesus, who should be the only rightful king on on the throne of your life. As you read through the prophecies and the various imageries in the book, keep bringing your focus back to Christ Jesus. This book is after all meant to be a book on  he “Revelation of Jesus” as experienced by John.

And as you and I focus on Jesus, I truly pray that our hearts would only well up with worship and adoration towards the only King of kings who is above all and in all and through all.

Weekly Summary

Jesus is the lamb of God and the Lion of Judah who is seated on the throne conquering all things from the beginning to the end and will bring forth a new heaven and a new earth.

Weekly Reading Plan

And now here is the weekly plan for you to read through this book.

Don’t forget to use the template I shared previously to help you on this journey. Also, check out my resources page where I explain this template a little more.

Digging Deeper

If you want to dig deeper here are some of my suggestions:

  • Use the above schedule to read through all of the text
  • Make a list of all the characteristics of God found throughout this book and meditate on them.
  • Optional (if you want to really read through the Bible in a year): Read Psalm 148-150.

And that is it for week 50!
